I have been promising my twins that when they were 5 I'd get them their own baby chicks.
I wanted them to be old enough to remember the experience and old enough to know not to squish them.
I went to the country store to get chicken feed for my 3 big hens.
Sarah was with me.
Right there next to the cowboy boots were baby chicks for sale.
Sarah couldn't believe her eyes.
She didn't even think to ask me for one, she just oohed and aahed.
I asked her what did I say would happen when she was 5 and it was spring time?
Then she remembered I'd promised to get her a chick.
We picked 3 out.
Seeing her little face in joyful disbelief are the moments that make being a mother so good.
One for her and Gwen and one for me since I was so sad about Wesley going home to his real parents.
When I got home the other kids couldn't believe I didn't get them one too so I went back and got 2 more.
I gave my chick to Luke.
Really all 5 are mine since I'm the mom and when you get your kids pets you're really getting your self a pet so you better be ok with the whole thing.
Although my oldest Emmaline who is 12 has a pet rat and I have very little to do with the care of her rat.
She loves animals as much as me so she is very capable of taking care of it.
Remember when she got the pet mouse? Well it escaped one fateful day and Golly our cat with the instincts of a lion had a great time playing with it.
It later died of internal injuries.
That's the hazard of having the entire food chain under one roof.
Emma quickly grieved and then used her money to buy a rat.
The rat can't squeeze out of the cage.
It's a nice pet......except for the extra stink.
I can shut her door and hope her lungs can handle the extra air pollution.
Here is Tabitha giving Buttercup the rat a "kiss"
(Check out my crazy pillow I bought from my chiropractor. I love that weird huge thing.)
Have a lovely day!
I love Spring
p.s.
I found my keys.
I lost them, not Nate.
I was too busy thinking he lost them so I forgot I left them in the bag I took to church.
That's the trouble with blaming.
It never solves anything.
